LifeCount
Tells rescue teams how many people are inside a building after an earthquake
Teknofest 4th place
Project Summary
LifeCount is a device that detects the number of people in a building during an earthquake and transmits this information to rescue teams. Using a Raspberry Pi and image processing, it counts people entering and leaving the building, so rescuers know how many people may be trapped under the rubble. The aim is to speed up search and rescue and reduce loss of life.
How It Works
Images from the camera module are processed on a Raspberry Pi 4 with Python and OpenCV to detect the number of people. The Flutter mobile app is meant for use both before and after an earthquake: it provides information about the status of survivors and shows the nearest aid points.
Features and Functions
- Real-time counting of people entering and leaving the building
- Detecting the number of people inside during an earthquake
- Instant information transmission to rescue teams
- Keeps working during power outages (with an external power source)
- Lets survivors report that they have made it out of the rubble
- Shows assembly points and the nearest aid points on a map
